Why You Need Canned Foods

Canned foods are always going to be the subject of a number of arguments in the foodie community. There are always going to be those that see them as a great way to store food for a long period of time, while others may just see them as a way to reduce the nutritional of food that would be better served even giving it away. While both sides are valid, canned foods nonetheless present some great opportunities for bachelor cooking, especially for those looking for some interesting options.

The major advantage is that canned foods work as a great way to save time. A lot of canned foods are actually prepped dinners that just require some heating up. These include a vast range of soups. fillings, and even specialty meals such as chilis and enchiladas. This allows a bachelor in a hurry to cook something healthy and sometimes even delicious in just a few moments. Although some meals may require a few extras, such as sliced olives or grated cheese, they do represent a wide variety of options that are quick and easy to prepare.

The other major advantage is that they can be stored for long periods of time. Because they are heated high enough to kill anything living in the can and then sealed from anything on the outside, this means that they are going to last a long time, even potentially decades, until the can itself rusts or is otherwise corroded. They also do not require refrigeration or other storage techniques until they are actually opened. That means that they will be available for use well after when other foods are useless, and that they can be used as long as the can has not been allowed to rust. Although there is some degradation in nutritional value over time, that durability is arguably one of their best selling points.

Another obvious advantage is the cost. Most single-item canned foods (such as vegetables) are available for less than a dollar, making them easily more affordable than a similar volume of frozen or even raw vegetables. Canned dinner items (such as enchiladas or spaghetti rings) are easily more affordable than than making the dinner itself. As they can be easily microwaved, this makes them ideal meals, both cheap and easy to prepare.

This means that while cans may have some nutritional issues, they are long-lasting, cheap, and one of the best ways to save time in the kitchen. For a bachelor, that makes them great additions to the pantry, and definitely something to stock up on.
